The idea of living abroad can be really appealing, but choosing the best place to settle down can be tricky. Dubai, a bright and shining city in the United Arab Emirates, has become a popular choice recently. This busy city has attracted people from all over the world, including an increasing number of British expats. They are drawn to its warm weather and lots of opportunities. It’s said that more than 240,000 British people have moved there already, but how is Dubai for living? In this article on Indubaimall, we want to give you a fair picture of what it’s really like to live in Dubai for you. We’ll cover things like the bright blue skies, the cost of living, tax-free income, and Job opportunities. We’ll share facts and real-life experiences to show you the true reality of living there.

Why Dubai Attracts Expats?

According to the Dubai government, the city’s population has now reached 3. 79 million as of October 2024. This is an increase from the 3. 65 million residents recorded at the end of 2023. The growth shows that Dubai continues to attract many expatriates, who form a large part of the population. Although the latest numbers for 2024 are not yet fully available, past data shows that more than 85% of Dubai’s population are expatriates. Dubai is the top choice for new residents because of its strong economy, plenty of job opportunities, vibrant culture, and beautiful scenery.

Tax-free Income and Job Opportunities

Why Dubai is the best place to live? One of the reasons that cause expats attract to Dubai for living is that Dubai provides a special combination of financial rewards, job chances, and a good way of living. Also, Dubai doesn’t charge personal income tax, so expats get to keep all the money they earn. This policy also applies to corporate taxes, meaning many companies across various industries don’t have to pay taxes. This helps attract businesses to open in Dubai and also helps employees because companies can afford to give better pay and benefits.

Safety, Infrastructure and Sunshine

If you ask how is Dubai to live, we can say that Dubai is very attractive to expats because of how safe it is, its good infrastructure, and the lot of sunshine. Is Dubai safe? The city also has a low crime rate and strong police support, which makes it a secure place to live. Dubai also has excellent infrastructure like modern transport, good healthcare, and reliable communication services. Plus, the weather is always sunny, which makes it a nice place for people to live.

The Cost of Living: What to Budget For?

One of  the other aspects of living in Dubai that you should consider if you have the question of ‘how is Dubai to live’ is about cost of living. Dubai doesn’t charge personal income tax, but it is still a costly place to live. Here’s a look at the main expenses you might face and what to budget for:

Housing Expenses

For most people living abroad, the biggest cost is paying for rent. In Dubai, the housing market is very competitive, and the price of renting depends on where you live, how big the apartment is, and what kind of facilities it has. In Dubai, most landlords ask for the full year’s rent paid in advance. However, some may accept payments made every quarter or every month.

  • Areas that are more affordable include Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), Al Barsha, and Dubai Silicon Oasis. A one-bedroom apartment there can cost between AED 47,000 to AED 117,500 each year.
  • Mid-range areas like Dubai Marina, Business Bay, and Downtown Dubai have higher rent, usually ranging from AED 117,500 to AED 235,000 per year.
  • Luxury areas such as Palm Jumeirah and Emirates Hills are the most expensive, with annual rent going up to AED 705,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.

Utilities, Internet and Cooling Costs

In Dubai, the cost for utilities like electricity, water, and internet can be between AED 500 and AED 2,000 each month. The amount you pay depends on things such as the size of your apartment, the time of year, and how much you use these services. During the summer, the cost to cool your home can take up a big part of your total utility bill.

Internet plans have different prices and speeds, and you can choose from providers like du and Etisalat. The basic plans usually cost about AED 272 each month, but if you go for a better plan with faster speeds, it can be as much as AED 900 or more.

Food, Dinning Out and Groceries

Food in Dubai may look expensive, but the cost really depends on what you choose. Eating out often and buying from high-end international supermarkets can make a big difference in your monthly expenses. But you can still live comfortably by cooking at home and avoiding costly imported goods. Dubai has also many different places to eat. How much you spend when you go out to dinner depends on what you like and what you choose. You can also dinning out in affordable restaurants in Dubai.

Grocries

For groceries, shopping at local markets and stores makes everyday items like bread, rice, vegetables, and fruits much cheaper. However, major Grocery Stores in Dubai are common. These places often have higher prices for imported and specialty products.

Transport Options and Cost

Dubai has a good public transportation system that includes the Dubai Metro and public buses. The city provides many cheap and easy ways to get around, such as the metro, buses, trams, taxis, and ride-hailing services like Uber and Careem. The Dubai Metro is very efficient and affordable, with single trips costing between AED 3 and AED 8. 50. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are easy to find, but taxis are usually cheaper than ride-hailing services for traveling within Dubai. Is Uber working in Dubai?
